In this lesson I will show you how to sketch a tulip in charcoal and graphite pencil.
Materials:
– Paper
– Charcoal pencil
– Graphite pencil
– Eraser

Step 1:
Lightly sketch in all the petals, the leaves and the stem with your graphite pencil. You can work slowly at this stage and alter and shapes or the composition as you like.

Step 1:
Then start laying in darker accents and patches with the charcoal pencil. This stage can be quite loose as we will be working over it during the final stage. You won’t be able to fully erase the charcoal pencil so don’t put it anywhere that you want to remain totally white.

Step 3:
Finally, you can use the graphite pencil to add finer details and shade in subtler tones within the light shapes. You can also work the graphite pencil over the charcoal layer, it will pick up and spread the charcoal dust to soften the tones in the shadows.
